Columbus Day Sale Weekend: Get Ready for Ski Season at Sno-Haus

Columbus Day weekend is one of the best times on Long Island to start getting ready for ski and snowboard season. Winter trips may still feel a little way off, but the smart move is to handle gear, boots, rentals, outerwear, and service before the first cold-weather rush.

This year, Sno-Haus is hosting the Columbus Day Ski Swap & Tent Sale from Friday, October 9 through Monday, October 12 at all three Sno-Haus stores: Huntington, Greenvale, and Hempstead.

Stop in to shop sale gear, seasonal rental savings, ski swap finds, and early-season essentials before winter gets busy. Sale selection and availability can vary by store, and this is an in-store event. Online prices do not reflect sale pricing.

Columbus Day Sale Deals at Sno-Haus

The Columbus Day Ski Swap & Tent Sale includes deals across skis, snowboards, clothing, accessories, rentals, and more. Here is what shoppers can look for during the sale weekend:

  • Last season’s skis and snowboards: 40% off all of last year’s skis and snowboards.
  • Tent sale: Up to 50% off items outside under the tents.
  • Dot Sale: 20% to 50% off select gear, clothing, and accessories marked with colored dots.
  • Helmet and goggle deal: Buy a helmet during the sale and take 20% off any goggles.
  • Ski swap: Sell eligible used gear on consignment and get 90% of the sale price back in Sno-Haus store credit if it sells.
  • Seasonal rental savings: Preseason pricing includes $20 off junior seasonal rental packages and $30 off adult seasonal rental packages.

Dot Sale discounts are taken at the register in store. Blue dots are 20% off, yellow dots are 30% off, and green or red dots are 50% off.

How the Ski Swap Works

The ski swap is a great option if your family has outgrown skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, poles, or bags from past seasons. Bring eligible used gear to any Sno-Haus location for evaluation, and our staff can help you set a price.

Drop-off is open now through Friday, October 9, the first day of the sale. Sno-Haus accepts used skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, poles, and bags for the swap. Clothing, helmets, goggles, base layers, socks, damaged gear, boots with worn-out soles, and bindings that no longer meet safety standards are not accepted.

If your item sells during the ski swap, 90% of the sale price is added to your Sno-Haus account as store credit. If it does not sell, Sno-Haus asks that you pick it up at the same store within one week of the swap, by Monday, October 19. Gear left after that date is donated.

Why Columbus Day Weekend Is the Right Time to Shop for Winter

Early fall is when ski and snowboard season starts to become real. Families are planning holiday trips, kids are outgrowing last year’s gear, and skiers and riders are deciding whether to rent, upgrade, or service what they already own.

Waiting until the week before your first trip often means fewer options, longer fitting times, and more pressure to make a quick decision. Shopping during Columbus Day weekend gives you more time to compare fits, ask questions, and make sure your setup is ready before the lifts start spinning.

What to Look For During the Sno-Haus Columbus Day Sale

The best sale purchase is not always the lowest-priced item. It is the piece of gear that fits correctly, matches your ability, and works for the type of skiing or riding you plan to do this season.

When you visit Sno-Haus this weekend, our staff can help you think through:

  • Ski and snowboard equipment: Match your gear to your height, weight, skill level, terrain, and goals for the season.
  • Boot fit: Make sure ski boots or snowboard boots hold your foot properly without creating painful pressure points.
  • Helmets and goggles: Check fit together so your helmet and goggles sit comfortably without gaps or pressure.
  • Outerwear and layers: Choose jackets, pants, gloves, and accessories that make sense for Northeast conditions.
  • Kids’ gear: Get growing skiers and riders into properly sized equipment before the winter rush.
  • Service needs: Bring in existing skis or snowboards for a tune, mounting, adjustment, or repair assessment.

Seasonal Rentals Are Worth Handling Early

If you are renting for the season, Columbus Day weekend is an ideal time to get fitted. Seasonal rentals let skiers and snowboarders keep equipment for the season instead of waiting in mountain rental lines each trip.

During the Columbus Day sale, Sno-Haus is offering preseason seasonal rental savings: $20 off junior seasonal rental packages and $30 off adult seasonal rental packages.

Visit our ski and snowboard rental page for current rental details, then stop into Huntington, Greenvale, or Hempstead to get fitted. Walk-ins are welcome, and availability can change as the season gets closer.

Boots Should Be a Priority, Not an Afterthought

If there is one place where fit matters most, it is your boots. Ski boots and snowboard boots affect comfort, control, warmth, and confidence. A boot that is too big, too narrow, too stiff, or poorly matched to your foot can make even good equipment feel difficult.

During Columbus Day Sale weekend, take time to try boots properly. Bring or wear one thin ski or snowboard sock, and give yourself enough time to stand, flex, buckle, and compare options. Our team can help evaluate size, shape, support, and pressure points so you are not guessing from a box size alone.

Bring Your Current Gear for a Preseason Check

Already own skis or a snowboard? Columbus Day weekend is also a good time to look over your current setup. Edges can rust, bases can dry out, bindings may need adjustment, and boots can pack out or change in fit over time.

Before your first trip, consider bringing your equipment to Sno-Haus so our staff can check whether it needs tuning, mounting, adjustment, or repair. A preseason tune can help your skis or board glide better, hold an edge more predictably, and feel more ready for Northeast snow conditions.

Planning a Vermont, Catskills, or Adirondacks Trip?

Many Long Island skiers and snowboarders spend winter weekends heading to Vermont, the Catskills, the Adirondacks, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and beyond. A little preparation before the first drive can make the whole trip smoother.

Before you leave, make sure you have:

  • Properly fitted boots
  • Helmet and goggles that fit together
  • Warm gloves or mittens
  • Moisture-wicking base layers
  • Insulated outerwear for changing conditions
  • Tuned skis or snowboard
  • Rental equipment fitted before your trip

If you are not sure what you need, bring your questions with you. Sno-Haus has helped Long Island skiers and snowboarders get ready for winter since 1959, and our staff can help you sort through the difference between something worth upgrading and something that simply needs service.
